SAMR Model
I found no evidence that the SAMR model is considered “best practice” but it is one that our technology director suggested to help guide my own technology development. One helpful resource Puentedura developed was questions that would guide an educator to climb the SAMR ladder:
Substitution:
Understanding this model and the potential for how I can implement the technology in my classroom will guide me to making better use of the technology and more effectively utilizing the resources available to me. I recognize my own abilities at a level of augmentation and there is some modification for my students. I see where I can push myself to the next level with the questions and considerations Puentedura proposed to maximize the use of the tools. By increasing my use and modification with technology, I’ll also be providing more exposure and skills to my students as they learn to use, navigate and gain independence with technology that will likely play a big role in their educational and adult lives.

Substitution:
- · What will I gain by replacing the older technology with the new technology?
- · Have I added a feature to the task process that could not be done with the older technology at a fundamental level?
- · How does this feature contribute to my design?
- · How is the original task being modified?
- · Does this modification depend upon the new technology?
- · How does this modification contribute to my design?
- · What is the new task?
- · Will it replace or supplement the old task?
- · How is it uniquely made possible by new technology?
- · How does it contribute to my design? (Puentedura, 2013)
